In 2022, the ten leading causes of death Compared to 2012, cancer and heart diseases both
accounted for 75.5% of all deaths, and were primarily ranked the top two; the new disease coronavirus

they were (1) malignant neoplasms (cancer), (2) heart the leading causes of death that increased in ranking

pneumonia, (5) cerebrovascular diseases, (6) diabetes ranking included cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes
mellitus, (7) hypertensive diseases, (8) accidents and mellitus, accidents and adverse effects, chronic lower
adverse effects, (9) chronic lower respiratory diseases, respiratory diseases. (Figure 2-6)
and (10) nephritis, nephrotic syndrome and nephrosis.

Section 2 Cancer Incidence and Causes
of Cancer Death
1. Cancer Incidence
According to cancer registration statistics for
2020, the crude cancer incidence rates for males
and females were 547.3 and 488.6 per 100,000
population, respectively. When adjusted for age
using the WHO 2000 standard population, the
standardized incidence rates for males and females
were 336.2 and 292.8 per 100,000 population,
respectively. The top 10 cancers in males and
females are presented in Table 2-1.
